Optoma has introduced a new ultra short throw (UST) projector, the Optoma GT3500HDR. Designed for both gamers and home entertainment enthusiasts, this projector promises to deliver large-screen experiences without the hefty price tag typically associated with high-end projectors. The GT3500HDR is priced at $1,499, positioning it as one of the more affordable options in the UST projector market.
The Optoma GT3500HDR has Full HD 1080p resolution and a peak brightness of 3,800 lumens. This high brightness level is intended to provide clear and vibrant images even in rooms with significant ambient light. Additionally, the projector supports high dynamic range (HDR) video, improving contrast and color accuracy.
The GT3500HDR can project a 100-inch image from just under a foot away from the screen. If more space is available, the projector can produce images up to 120 inches in diagonal, which should provide flexibility for various room sizes and configurations.
The Optoma GT3500HDR has been designed with compactness and convenience in mind. Its dimensions (327mm x 327mm x 109mm) make it relatively small for a UST projector, being almost 30% smaller than its predecessor, the GT5600. This compact size allows for easy placement on a sideboard or bookcase, making it a discreet addition to any living room. The projector's white finish is intended to blend seamlessly with typical home decor.
Weighing less than many of its competitors, the Optoma GT3500HDR is also portable, allowing users to move it between rooms with ease. This flexibility is further enhanced by features such as four-corner correction and horizontal and vertical keystone correction, which simplify the setup process.
Optoma has also equipped the GT3500HDR with its DuraCore laser technology. This laser lighting system significantly extends the projector's lifespan, offering up to 30,000 hours of operation in Eco mode. This longevity is six times greater than that of traditional lamp projectors, reducing the need for frequent maintenance and lamp replacements.
Laser projectors are also known for maintaining consistent picture quality over time. Unlike traditional lamp projectors, whose image quality can deteriorate with use, laser projectors like the GT3500HDR provide stable and bright images throughout their lifespan. Additionally, the projector’s optical engine is dust-resistant with an IP6X certification, providing reliable performance even in less-than-ideal environments.
The GT3500HDR is marketed as a projector suitable for gaming, and its specifications support this claim. It features ultra-low input lag, which is very important for a smooth gaming experience. In its fastest response mode, the projector achieves 8.6ms at 120Hz for 1080p content and 17ms for 4K content at 60Hz. These response times are designed to provide gamers with a competitive edge by ensuring that the on-screen action keeps pace with their inputs.
As for audio, the Optoma GT3500HDR includes a built-in 15W speaker system, which should suffice for casual viewing. However, for a more immersive audio experience, users might still prefer to connect external speakers or a sound system.
Connectivity options on the GT3500HDR include two HDMI 2.0 ports, a USB 1.5A power output port, a 3.5mm audio input, an RS232C control port, an Ethernet network port, and a 3D sync port. The inclusion of the 3D sync port indicates support for 3D content, provided the user has compatible 3D glasses and content.
