Philips Hue has introduced the Hue Twilight, a dedicated sleep and wake-up lamp, aiming to enhance users' circadian rhythms through smart lighting technology. As the first of its kind from Philips Hue, the Twilight is designed to help users fall asleep and wake up more naturally by mimicking the natural light palette of morning and evening.
The Philips Hue Twilight is a compact lamp, standing 13 inches tall with a base depth of 4.09 inches. It features two independently controllable light sources: an illumination head and a backlight with the new ColorCast technology.
The illumination head is capable of swiveling from left to right, making it ideal for activities such as reading in bed. The backlight employs a gradient of overlapping LEDs to simulate the wide palette of sunrise and sunset colors, which helps regulate sleep patterns.
The lamp includes two customizable buttons located on the top of the swiveling head. One button allows users to cycle through six new light scenes, such as “Arise” and “Sleepy,” while the other triggers a Sunset Go to Sleep automation.
This automation gradually dims the light with red tones, simulating a sunset to help users unwind and prepare for sleep. The wake-up automation gradually brightens the light to simulate a sunrise, aiming to make waking up a more gentle and natural process.
The Philips Hue Twilight integrates seamlessly with the Hue smart lighting ecosystem, supporting Hue automations, room or zone grouping, and voice commands. It can be controlled via a Hue smart switch or the Hue app. While it requires the Hue Bridge to unlock its most advanced features, including out-of-home control, the Twilight can also operate via Bluetooth with a limited set of features.
Another notable feature of the Twilight is its ability to dim to an exceptionally low brightness level of 0.5 percent, which is significantly dimmer than many other smart bulbs on the market. This allows for minimal light interference during sleep, contributing to a better sleep environment.
The Philips Hue Twilight is available in black and white and is priced at $279.99. It can be purchased exclusively from the Hue online store.
Alongside the Twilight, Philips Hue has expanded its product lineup with several new additions. The new Lightguide range now includes four new handblown glass shapes: small globe, large globe, triangle, and Edison. These bulbs, priced between $79.99 and $99.99, offer smart functionalities and a striking design to enhance any room’s décor.
Additionally, Philips Hue has introduced the Solo lightstrip, available in 3m, 5m, and 10m lengths, priced at $59.99, $89.99, and $159.99 respectively. The lightstrip offers a cheaper alternative for users looking to add smart lighting to spaces like closets and shelves without the high cost of gradient or color ambiance lighting.
The Philips Hue Datura ceiling light is another new addition, featuring two independently controllable light sources for both functional room illumination and ambient lighting. Available in 15-inch and 22.6-inch sizes, the Datura is priced at $299.99 and $399.99 respectively.
