PMC has unveiled its latest premium range of home audio speakers, the Prophecy Series, marking a new chapter in the brand's legacy. Known for their Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) technology, PMC has further refined this approach in their Prophecy lineup, introducing innovative design features and new technologies aimed at delivering a "more immersive and precise listening experience."
The Prophecy Series includes five models designed to cater to diverse audio setups. These range from the compact Prophecy1 standmount speaker to the flagship Prophecy9 floorstander with dual bass drivers. A dedicated center speaker, the ProphecyC, rounds out the collection, making it suitable for both stereo and multichannel configurations.
Each model features new proprietary drivers tailored for specific roles. The tweeters and midrange drivers, inspired by PMC’s professional studio monitors, are engineered for high precision and wide dispersion.
The range also introduces long-throw bass drivers with mica-filled polypropylene cones, offering a balance of rigidity, damping, and responsiveness. These are matched to the Advanced Transmission Line to deliver deep, uncolored bass while minimizing distortion.
Central to the series is the evolution of PMC's Laminair technology, now rebranded as LaminairX. This patent-pending redesign integrates an aerodynamic vent into the speakers’ heavy aluminum base. According to PMC, this approach reduces turbulence, cuts harmonic distortion by up to 3dB, and enhances bass precision. The LaminairX system also contributes to grounding the speaker, improving overall control and stability.
PMC adopted a holistic design philosophy for the Prophecy Series, ensuring that every component—drivers, crossovers, waveguides, and cabinets—functions as part of a unified system. This approach allows for consistent tonal quality across the range and aims to eliminate any design elements that might detract from the listening experience.
The crossovers employ a steep roll-off design with military-grade circuit boards and gold-plated components for reliable current flow. This should ensure each driver operates within its optimal range while maintaining a wide listening window.
“One of the most challenging areas when developing a range of speakers is to maintain the sound character from one model to another. We have achieved this with each speaker in the range through our holistic approach and 30-plus years of experience in developing the world’s reference studio monitors," said Oliver Thomas, commercial director.
“From the diminutive prophecy1 through to the flagship prophecy9, an identical tonal presentation is maintained across this range of speakers that appeals to the discerning music lover.”
In addition to its technological advancements, the Prophecy Series incorporates a modern aesthetic aligned with contemporary design trends. Cabinets are available in three finishes: Mediterranean Oak, Natural Walnut, and Black Walnut. The veneers are sourced sustainably, and the finishing process emphasizes the natural tactile qualities of the wood.
PMC has also prioritized environmental considerations in its packaging. Polystyrene has been replaced with recyclable cardboard, and plastic bags have been swapped for cloth alternatives. Non-toxic, vegetable-based inks are used for printing, reducing the environmental footprint of the product.
The Prophecy Series utilizes several professional-grade components adapted for home use. The tweeter, initially developed for studio monitors, features a 26mm soft dome with a dispersion grille for controlled directivity up to 180 degrees. The three-way models include a 55mm soft dome midrange driver surrounded by a sculptured waveguide, which improves integration and provides an ultra-wide soundstage.
The bass drivers, designed for high linearity, are engineered to reproduce the deepest frequencies without coloring the midrange. Combined with the LaminairX-enhanced ATL, these drivers promise precise bass with exceptional timing and dynamics.
The PMC Prophecy Series will be available globally starting February 1, 2025. The pricing for the range is as follows (US pricing TBC):
