Proficient Audio today announced the release of two in-wall LCR speaker models, the IW650 and IW625. These new speakers improve on the bass response and power handling of the company's IW550 and IW525 speakers, making them a perfect choice for larger media rooms and dedicated home theaters.

Until now, dealers who have been installing in-wall LCR speakers for flat panel jobs have been limited to using dual 5 ¼" woofer LCR's. The new Proficient dual 6 ½" in-wall LCR speakers can be installed horizontally between 16" on-center wall studs. This will allow installers to design a 3-speaker LCR array that provides higher SPL in the home theater. Plus, according to the company, bass response is improved due to a 40% increase in surface area of the woofer cones.

The large woofers of the IW650 and IW625 feature two 6 1/2-inch Kevlar-cone woofers and a 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter. The IW625 uses two 6 1/2-inch graphite-cone woofers with a 1-inch soft dome tweeter. The tweeter is positioned between and in close proximity to the woofers, and can be pivoted to direct the high frequencies as desired.

Frequency response of the IW650 is 50 Hz to 20 kHz with power handling of 150 watts. The IW625 frequency response is 55 Hz to 20 kHz and power handing is 125 watts. Both speakers have 8 ohm impedance and 90 dB sensitivity, making them easy for low-powered amplifiers to drive. And both allow contouring of the response to suit the acoustic environment via switches that provide 3dB of trim for bass and treble.

"With the increasing popularity and size of flat panel displays, audio systems are having to scale up too," said Keith Marshall, President of Proficient Audio. "The IW600 Series provides the output needed for larger home theaters and media rooms, yet they're exceptionally versatile and easy to install. We're pleased to assist our installers with this extra acoustical potential."

The IW Series is shipping now. Suggested retail prices are $475 each for the IW650 and $400 each for the IW625.
