Hi-fi fans looking for a small but powerful audio hub now have a new option: the Rotel DX-3. This compact unit combines a high-resolution DAC, a headphone amplifier, and a preamplifier, making it a flexible choice for digital and analog sources alike. With support for 32-bit/384kHz playback, balanced and single-ended headphone outputs, and Bluetooth streaming, the DX-3 is built to handle serious audio setups without taking up much space.

The DX-3 isn’t just about size—it’s built to handle a wide range of audio sources, both digital and analog. On the digital side, it supports high-resolution audio, with a USB input that can process up to 32-bit/384kHz PCM files and DSD256. There are also coaxial and optical digital inputs capable of playing 24-bit/192kHz audio, making it a great match for high-res music streaming or external media players.

For wireless listening, the DX-3 comes with Bluetooth connectivity, supporting AAC and aptX HD codecs, so you can stream music from your phone or laptop without sacrificing quality.

Prefer analog? No problem. The Rotel DX-3 includes an RCA line-level input, allowing you to connect older sources like a turntable, FM tuner, or CD player. And if you’re looking to use it as a preamp, there are balanced XLR and RCA outputs to connect it to a power amplifier or active speakers.

If you’re a headphone user, the DX-3 has you covered. The built-in headphone amplifier is designed to work with a wide range of headphones, from low-impedance portable models to high-impedance audiophile cans. There’s also a selectable gain setting, letting you tweak the output to match your headphones for the best performance.

On the front panel, you’ll find both a 6.3mm (single-ended) and a 4.4mm (balanced) headphone output, giving you options depending on what type of headphones you use.

Under the hood, the Rotel DX-3 is packed with high-quality components designed to deliver clear, detailed sound. At its core is the ESS Sabre ES9028PRO DAC, a well-regarded chip known for its low noise and high dynamic range.

To power the unit, Rotel has built its own low-noise toroidal transformer, which helps ensure a clean and stable power supply. The DX-3 also uses high-quality capacitors, separate analog and digital power supplies, and a fully balanced signal path to reduce distortion and interference.

The volume control is another thoughtful addition—Rotel has used an NJW1195A fully differential analog controller, allowing for precise adjustments in 0.5dB increments.

Rotel has kept the user experience simple and intuitive. The front panel features a full-color graphic display, making it easy to see your source selection and volume levels at a glance. There’s also a large, diamond-knurled volume knob, designed for smooth and accurate adjustments.

You can control the DX-3 using the front panel buttons or the included aluminum remote, making it convenient to adjust settings without reaching for the unit.

The Rotel DX-3 will be available in black and silver finishes, launching in the UK and Europe in March 2025, with a global release to follow shortly after. Pricing is set at $1,499.
