Sansui was founded in 1947. Japanese for "mountain" and "water," Sansui originally produced transformers, then eventually an entire line of audio products sold throughout the world. On a slightly lesser scale, Sansui products enjoyed a strong reputation in the 1970s and 1980s in the mid-fi market, similar to Sony, Pioneer, and Kenwood.
Sansui made many tube-based designs in addition to solid-state, and even produces tube amplifiers to this day. Sansui faded in the US in the 1980s and never returned with nearly its previous presence. However, Sansui continues to achieve strong sales and an established presence in overseas markets with its wide variety of mobile and home audio and home theater products, although its expansion into product categories such as washing machines, air conditioners, and refrigerators draw a stark contrast to its audio heritage.
Notable Sansui products include:
Sansui G-20000, G-30000 and G-9000/G-9700.
