Shure has unveiled the second generation of its Aonic 50 wireless headphones at IFA 2023. The original Aonic 50 garnered significant acclaim for its exceptional sound quality, and the Aonic 50 Gen 2 aims to take this success to new heights. With a host of impressive features, including spatial audio, enhanced active noise cancellation (ANC), and extended battery life, these headphones are poised to make a splash in the audio market.

One of the standout features of the Aonic 50 Gen 2 is the integration of spatial audio technology, a development that Shure claims to be revolutionary. This technology utilizes a proprietary algorithm, combining acoustical modeling and critical listening, to enhance spaciousness without compromising the original audio quality. 

Users can choose from three distinct modes tailored to different use cases: Music Mode, Cinema Mode, and Podcast Mode. Music Mode aims to maintain the sonic characteristics of the source material, while Cinema Mode replicates the immersive theater experience with enhanced low-frequency tones and natural-sounding dialogue. Podcast Mode brings the host's voice closer to the listener's ears, ensuring crystal-clear communication.

The headphones are equipped with custom-engineered 50mm dynamic drivers, a hallmark of Shure's commitment to audio quality. Additionally, users can fine-tune their listening experience through the ShurePlus app's customizable EQ features.

One of the most significant improvements in the Aonic 50 Gen 2 is the implementation of hybrid active noise cancellation (ANC). By employing microphones both inside and outside the ear cups, Shure offers users four selectable ANC modes: Light, Moderate, Max, and MaxAware. The MaxAware setting strikes a balance between blocking external noise and maintaining awareness of the surroundings, making it ideal for on-the-go conversations and work settings.

Battery life has received a substantial boost in the second-generation model, with Shure promising up to 45 hours of runtime on a single charge, more than doubling the previous generation's capacity. A quick charge feature provides five hours of use with just a 15-minute charge, ensuring uninterrupted listening.

To maintain a consistent and clear audio experience, the Aonic 50 Gen 2 headphones leverage Qualcomm's Snapdragon Sound technology, which includes aptX Adaptive and LDAC support. These headphones offer compatibility with multiple high-resolution audio codecs, including AAC and SBC.

Shure also places a strong emphasis on call quality, with six built-in microphones featuring automatic gain control to minimize ambient noise and deliver unmatched clarity during voice calls.

The Aonic 50 Gen 2 headphones are set to hit the shelves in September 2023, initially available in black at a price point of $349.
