According to Sony, the projector is based on three new SXRD chips that have more than four times the resolution of today's 1080p models. 4096 x 2160 pixels to be exact. The projector also delivers much improved black levels when compared to Sony's Iris3 technology, according to the company.
The new projector is suitable for screens up to 200-inches.
There isn't a lot of 4K content, any really any for that matter, currently available. As a solution to this the VPL-VW100ES includes an exclusive 4K upscaler, which will scale video content up to 4K. The projector can also display 3D and anamorphic content.
The projector is scheduled to ship in December 2011. No price has been announced.
