Andover Audio has introduced the SpinBase 2, a compact, all-in-one turntable speaker system that builds on the foundation of its predecessor, the SpinBase, with upgraded design and functionality. Known for its simple yet stylish design, the SpinBase 2 is a product that combines Andover’s focus on quality sound with ease of use. The latest model caters to vinyl enthusiasts who want an accessible and uncluttered way to enjoy their music collection while accommodating modern features such as Bluetooth connectivity and digital input options.
The SpinBase 2 enhances the listening experience by integrating Bluetooth capabilities, allowing users to wirelessly connect with external Bluetooth headphones or speakers. This feature broadens how users can enjoy vinyl by supporting both Bluetooth input and output, so records can be played wirelessly for a flexible listening experience.
In addition to Bluetooth, SpinBase 2 includes a variety of input options—Phono, Line, Optical Digital, and USB for flash drives. This range of connectivity choices enables users to seamlessly connect a turntable, additional audio sources, or even digital devices, offering a level of versatility that goes beyond traditional turntable speakers.
For a smoother user experience, the SpinBase 2 is equipped with an infrared (IR) remote that allows for easy adjustment of settings like bass and treble. The addition of a four-character LED display behind the front grille provides feedback on these adjustments, lighting up only when changes are made to keep the interface clean and understated. Andover has also moved the headphone jack to a side panel, making it more accessible for users who want quick access to private listening options.
One of the standout technical improvements in the SpinBase 2 is the Dual Direct Drive amplification system. Each woofer and tweeter in the system has its own dedicated amplifier, a design shift that enables clearer and more robust sound by reducing the limitations of passive crossovers.
With its 270° driver array and two oval woofers paired with silk-dome tweeters, the SpinBase 2 offers a substantial sound profile, powered at 2x20W for the woofers and 2x15W for the tweeters, covering frequencies from 65Hz to 20kHz. Additionally, the high-pass filter function lets users boost output for more powerful sound, especially when paired with a subwoofer.
The SpinBase 2 adopts a modernized look with fabric-wrapped grilles and a choice between black and white finishes, aligning with the visual appeal of Andover’s other products in the Spin Collection, which includes the SpinDeck 2 turntable, SpinSub subwoofer, and SpinStand for vinyl storage. This refined aesthetic not only makes the SpinBase 2 visually cohesive with the rest of Andover’s product line but also allows it to blend seamlessly into home environments where design and décor are as important as functionality.
Andover also eliminated the need for an external power transformer by integrating the AC power supply directly into the unit, making the SpinBase 2 easier to set up without the hassle of additional adapters or cables. This streamlined setup highlights the brand's focus on creating an easy-to-use system that meets the practical needs of its users.
“At the heart of the SpinBase design is our patented IsoGroove technology, originally created for our flagship Andover-One all-in-one record player,” said Bob Hazelwood, Andover’s Director of Engineering and Product Development. “This groundbreaking technology eliminates feedback, allowing our SpinBase speakers to be stacked directly under the turntable without compromising sound quality.
We’re committed to delivering superior, distortion-free audio for vinyl enthusiasts, all wrapped in a sleek, modern design. Over the past four years, we’ve received incredible feedback from our customers, and we’ve taken it to heart. This second generation of the SpinBase design builds on the successful foundation of the first, with significant enhancements of sound quality and visual appeal.”
Central to the SpinBase series is Andover’s IsoGroove technology, a patented approach that addresses feedback issues caused by placing speakers too close to a turntable.By positioning the speakers directly beneath the turntable, IsoGroove minimizes vibrations and prevents audio distortion, a common problem for vinyl playback systems that rely on traditional speaker setups.
This technology enables the SpinBase 2 to deliver clear sound without the feedback issues that typically necessitate careful speaker placement in turntable systems.
The SpinBase 2 provides users with multiple options for expanding their audio setup. With line-level audio outputs, it can easily connect to additional powered speakers or subwoofers for a richer listening environment.
Moreover, Andover offers a Songbird WiFi streaming adapter for those who want to add high-resolution streaming services and internet radio to their setup, adding even more flexibility for modern listeners who appreciate a range of content sources.
Available in black or white, the SpinBase 2 is currently open for pre-order for $349 on Andover’s official website and at selected retailers, with an expected delivery date in December.
