SVS just introduced a new line of subwoofers—the 5000 R|Evolution Series—and it’s bringing some of the company’s more advanced features into a more accessible price range. The lineup includes two models: the SB-5000 R|Evolution, which comes in a sealed cabinet, and the PB-5000 R|Evolution, built with a ported enclosure.
These new subs are designed to carry over a lot of what SVS developed for its flagship 17-Ultra R|Evolution series. Think of it as a more compact, more affordable way to get serious low-end performance without giving up much of the tech that makes SVS’s top-tier models stand out.
“SVS has always been about bringing reference experiences to broader audiences. While other manufacturers are still chasing benchmarks we established with the flagship 17-Ultra R|Evolution Series, we raised the bar and redefined what is possible at even lower prices with the 5000 R|Evolution Series,” said Gary Yacoubian, SVS President.
“From the performance specs to the advanced tuning and control and user experience, 5000 R|Evolution defines its class. The finest subwoofer technology available is now accessible to more audiophiles and home theater fans than ever.”
At the heart of both models is a newly designed 15-inch driver—SVS’s first. It uses a dual edge-wound voice coil setup and a massive 38-pound magnet to deliver deep, controlled bass. The voice coil is made from copper-clad aluminum wire, a material choice that helps manage heat while keeping the magnetic field strong and efficient.
There’s also a long-throw parabolic rubber surround that gives the driver a wide range of motion, which is key for hitting those deep bass notes without losing detail. A lightweight dustcap made from glass fiber adds rigidity without adding much weight, so the driver can move more air while staying responsive.
The 5000 R|Evolution subs are powered by SVS’s STA-2000D amplifier. It’s a Class D amp that delivers 2,000 watts of continuous power and can handle over 5,000 watts at peak. What’s interesting here is the dual monoblock design—basically, the amp powers each voice coil separately, which lets it push more current into the driver while maintaining control over its movement.
To support that kind of power, SVS built in an AC line conditioner that stabilizes the voltage, reduces electrical noise, and manages waveform distortion. That means the sub can perform consistently, even if your home’s electrical supply isn’t perfect.
Both models also feature a 295MHz Analog Devices DSP—the most powerful processor SVS has put in a subwoofer to date. This chip handles all the behind-the-scenes work, like adjusting EQ settings, managing power delivery, monitoring thermal conditions, and keeping the sub performing efficiently.
There’s also a high-quality digital-to-analog converter with a 120 dB signal-to-noise ratio. In plain terms, this helps the sub deliver clean sound, even when the volume is cranked up.
SVS continues to lean into smartphone control with these subs. Using the SVS app, you can tweak a wide range of settings, including volume, low pass filter, phase, polarity, and more. The app also gives you access to six bands of parametric EQ, room gain compensation, and (for the ported model) port tuning options.
For added convenience, there are three memory presets, so you can quickly switch between different settings depending on whether you’re watching a movie, listening to music, or something else entirely.
One feature that’s not available just yet—but is coming soon—is Auto EQ Subwoofer Room Correction. Once it rolls out via firmware update, you’ll be able to use your smartphone’s built-in mic to automatically measure and adjust the sub’s performance based on your room’s acoustics. The goal here is to simplify the tuning process and help the sub sound its best no matter where you place it.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what you get with each model:
SB-5000 R|Evolution (Sealed Cabinet)
PB-5000 R|Evolution (Ported Cabinet)
Both are available now in the U.S. and will begin shipping internationally in the coming weeks.
If you’re attending AXPONA 2025 this weekend, you’ll be able to check out the new subs in SVS’s demo rooms (suites 1442 and 1444). But for those planning to test at home, SVS offers a 45-day in-home trial as part of its standard buying experience.
