TCL QM6K: The TV That’s Ready to Outsmart Samsung and LG in 2025

The QM6K series marks TCL’s latest push into affordable premium TVs, loaded with tech that rivals flagship models from competitors.

TCL has a reputation for delivering high-tech TVs at prices that don’t break the bank, and its new QM6K series looks to continue that trend. Announced at CES 2025, the QM6K is packed with features aimed at improving how we watch movies, play games, or just enjoy everyday TV.

With sizes ranging from 50 to a massive 98 inches, the QM6K lineup brings new tech to the table, focusing on brighter displays, sharper contrasts, and better color accuracy — all at surprisingly competitive prices. It’s no surprise then that we awarded the QM6K the Best of CES 2025 title, recognizing its advanced backlight technology and exceptional value in the Mini LED market.

“I’m proud to say that TCL secured its position as top 2 best-selling TV brand for the sixth consecutive year and just received a 2025 Circana Consumer Electronics Performance Award for Top Increase in TV Market Share in North America. On the heels of such a successful year, 2025 will take us to new heights as a dominant player in the CE industry, continuously changing the game with TCL’s groundbreaking innovation,” said Chris Hamdorf, Executive Vice President, TCL North America.

“TCL will be doubling down on QLED, QD-Mini LED and XXL screen sizes, as we deliver even more premium options that meet consumer demand while still providing the unmatched value and quality we’re known for.”

One of the standout upgrades in the QM6K series is its Super High Energy LED Chip, designed at TCL’s Pangu Lab in China. This new chip makes the TVs 53% brighter than before while improving light efficiency by 10%. That means you get more brightness without a big spike in energy use, which is a win for both your eyes and your electricity bill.

To make sure that extra brightness is focused where it’s needed, TCL added a Condensed Micro Lens. This feature narrows and sharpens light paths, making HDR content look more precise and vibrant. Whether it’s a fast-paced action scene or a dimly lit drama, the QM6K aims to deliver an immersive viewing experience.

One issue with LED TVs has always been the “halo effect,” where bright spots can bleed into darker areas of the screen. TCL addresses this with its Micro OD backlight system. By reducing the space between the backlight and the diffuser plate from 25mm to just 8mm, the QM6K minimizes stray light and sharpens contrasts. TCL says this setup improves blooming control by 18% and enhances backlight uniformity by 143%, ensuring more consistent brightness across the screen.

Another big change is the introduction of High Viewing Angle (HVA) panels, which block light better in darker scenes. These panels allow for a static contrast ratio of 7,000:1, meaning blacks appear richer and shadows more detailed — great for movie nights or gaming in low-light environments.

On the color front, TCL has upgraded its Quantum Dot technology with enhanced Quantum Crystals. The QM6K now covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum, giving you vivid and accurate colors that pop off the screen. These Quantum Crystals are also built to last, maintaining their quality for up to 100,000 viewing hours.

The QM6K integrates a range of new processing features to improve motion handling and brightness precision:

  • Zero-Delay Transient Response: Reduces lag between input signals and backlight response, a critical factor for gamers and action-packed scenes.
  • 23-Bit Bi-Directional Backlight Controller: Offers granular control over 65,000 brightness levels, allowing for smoother transitions and more realistic lighting.
  • Dynamic Light Algorithm: Converts standard dynamic range (SDR) signals into near-HDR quality for improved viewing consistency.

These technologies are bundled into TCL’s new Halo Control Technology Suite, which underpins the QM6K’s visual enhancements.

The QM6K series supports a 144Hz native refresh rate and Game Accelerator 288, enabling variable refresh rates (VRR) up to 288Hz for smoother gameplay. Certifications from AMD FreeSync and support for formats like Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ make this TV a strong contender for immersive gaming and HDR movie watching.

The QM6K isn’t just about visuals. It comes with a 40W Onkyo 2.1 speaker system, complete with Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X support, delivering immersive audio straight out of the box. You’ll also find hands-free voice control and the Google TV operating system, making navigation a breeze.

“When it comes to Mini LED, no other brand is as completely vertically integrated as TCL. For 2025, we will fully leverage our extensive hardware and processing expertise to create a truly next gen QD-Mini LED system,” said Scott Ramirez, VP, Product Marketing and Development, Home Theater.

“Every aspect of TCL’s new Halo Control Technology Suite has been carefully created and curated to provide stunning picture quality, and our first QM6K Series will now redefine the term ‘Affordable Premium’.”

The QM6K series is available for pre-order now, with prices that aim to undercut much of the competition:

  • 50 inches: $749.99
  • 55 inches: $799.99
  • 65 inches: $999.99
  • 75 inches: $1,299.99
