TEAC has recently introduced the HA-507, an analog headphone amplifier and preamplifier as part of its Reference 500 Series. Set to hit the market in early 2025 with a retail price of around $1,999, the TEAC HA-507 offers a balance of functionality and design in a compact form, aiming to meet the needs of audiophiles and professional listeners alike. 

The HA-507 features a fully balanced, dual-mono configuration capable of delivering 6.7 watts per channel at 32 ohms through balanced outputs. This setup makes it suitable for driving a variety of headphones, including those with higher impedance that demand more power for optimal performance. Its wide frequency range, from 10 Hz to 150 kHz, allows it to accommodate an extensive spectrum of audio detail, from deep bass to high frequencies.

Inside, the TEAC HA-507 relies on dual independent power supplies, with one dedicated to audio circuits and the other to control circuits. This separation helps reduce interference between circuits, potentially enhancing sound clarity. 

Large toroidal transformers support each power supply, and high-speed Schottky diodes maintain responsiveness by smoothing power delivery. Each channel includes 18,800 µF of capacitance, which enhances the dynamic range and sound fidelity across the audio spectrum.

TEAC has equipped the HA-507 with a range of connectivity options to accommodate diverse listening setups. For headphone outputs, the device includes both balanced (XLR 4-pin and 4.4mm Pentaconn) and unbalanced (6.3mm and 3.5mm) connectors, allowing compatibility with a wide variety of headphone models. In addition, the HA-507 provides a preamp pass-through function, enabling it to function as a dedicated power amplifier when integrated into a larger audio system.

For input and output flexibility, the TEAC HA-507 includes dual XLR and RCA inputs and outputs, allowing it to pair seamlessly with other components in a high-fidelity audio setup. These configurations enable listeners to switch between headphone and loudspeaker setups without compromising signal quality. This versatility in output and input options broadens the potential applications of the HA-507 within both home and professional audio environments.

The HA-507 is outfitted with TEAC’s advanced QVCS volume control system, a feature designed for precise adjustments in 0.25 dB increments. This ladder resistor network helps maintain tonal balance while allowing for smooth volume transitions, an advantage for both headphone listening and loudspeaker configurations.

Additionally, TEAC's HCLD 2 technology is employed in the preamp section, enhancing the power and speed of external amplifier drive for listeners who integrate the HA-507 with other amplifiers.

The preamp functionality extends the HA-507’s utility beyond headphones. When paired with an external amplifier, the HA-507’s analog-only circuitry maintains sound fidelity while providing the flexibility to drive various components in an audio setup. 

This functionality, combined with the QVCS volume system, enables the HA-507 to act as the control center for more complex listening systems, offering dynamic and responsive sound control for users seeking tailored audio experiences.

Housed in an A4-sized aluminum chassis, the HA-507 combines a compact footprint with a robust build. The semi-floating top plate, made from 2.8mm aluminum, is designed for durability and heat dissipation. This fanless design promotes passive cooling, ensuring the amplifier remains thermally stable during extended listening sessions. Stress-free metal feet offer three-point support, which TEAC claims enhances sound stability when the device is placed on an audio rack or desktop.

The unit is available in two finishes—silver and black—offering aesthetic versatility for various setups. The HA-507’s compact design, along with its fanless, heat-dissipating build, suits it for both rack and desktop installation.

Additionally, it comes with a dedicated remote control, allowing motorized volume adjustment from a distance. This feature enhances convenience for users who integrate the HA-507 into broader sound systems, enabling remote adjustments without needing to approach the device.
