Bluesound has officially released its latest flagship wireless music streamer, the NODE ICON, available globally for $999 (£899). Positioned as a next-generation addition to its popular NODE series, the NODE ICON seeks to enhance high-resolution audio streaming with advanced features and versatile connectivity.
The NODE ICON introduces Bluesound's Dual-Mono DAC architecture, employing two ESS SABRE ES9039Q2M digital-to-analog converters (DACs). This configuration, according to Bluesound, ensures precise audio playback with ultra-low distortion and an improved dynamic range.
Complementing the DAC design is the inclusion of MQA Labs’ QRONO d2a processing technology, which aims to enhance impulse response and improve transparency during digital-to-analog conversion. Additionally, the streamer integrates a two-channel ES9826 SABRE analog-to-digital converter, designed to minimize noise and distortion.
Bluesound highlights the NODE ICON's ability to deliver accurate, true-to-source audio. The product’s engineering builds on years of research and development, with the company claiming it represents a culmination of expertise in audio design.
“Every detail of the NODE has been meticulously engineered for performance,” says Matt Simmonds, Product Manager at Bluesound. “From its groundbreaking audio architecture to its elegant design, the NODE ICON isn’t just another streamer—it redefines what a wireless music streamer can be. It’s the perfect blend of form, function, and fidelity for those who demand the very best from their music.”
The NODE ICON features a high-quality aluminum chassis and a 5-inch full-color display. These design elements combine durability with aesthetic appeal, displaying album artwork and track details vividly. Available in a sleek matte black finish, the NODE ICON is intended to blend seamlessly into a variety of home audio setups.
Connectivity options are a significant focus of the NODE ICON. The device includes balanced XLR outputs, HDMI eARC, and a comprehensive array of analog and digital connections. These features make it adaptable for both high-end stereo systems and more advanced home theater configurations. The addition of balanced XLR outputs is particularly noteworthy, as it appeals to users seeking professional-grade connectivity for upscale stereo components.
The NODE ICON incorporates THX AAA headphone amplifier technology, offering low-noise, distortion-free audio for headphone users. It provides dual left and right ¼-inch headphone outputs, accommodating users with diverse headphone setups.
Looking ahead, the NODE ICON is designed to support Dirac Live Room Correction through a future software update and additional license purchase. This technology, which measures and adjusts for room acoustics, is often praised for its ability to enhance audio playback by eliminating unwanted distortions in various listening environments.
As part of the BluOS ecosystem, the NODE ICON is compatible with Bluesound’s range of speakers and components, as well as devices from other BluOS-enabled brands like NAD Electronics, PSB Speakers, Monitor Audio, and Roksan. This compatibility allows users to create a synchronized multi-room audio setup, enabling seamless playback across multiple devices.
The NODE ICON is available now at Crutchfield and on the Bluesound website. Bluesound has confirmed global availability, with units already shipping to customers and retail locations.
