In the middle of an astonishing twenty seasons, Fox's unbelievably successful animated franchise, The Simpsons, is finally making the move to HDTV. Starting with the February 15, 2009 episode, the Sunday stalwart will be beaming a lot more resolution than ever to an audience who can increasingly watch in 720p and or 1080i resolutions.
It is curious as to why The Simpsons are not debuting in HD after the upcoming Super Bowl when the largest number of potential high definition viewers are available to see the show in higher resolutions.
The Simpsons Movie, while not critically acclaimed, was visually stunning in 1080p video via Blu-ray as the animated nature of the show allows for high contrast ratios and vibrant color renderings.
