These Are the Switch 2 Games That’ll Own My Summer (and Maybe Yours Too)

From Zelda, and Mario Kart, to Cyberpunk, here’s why I’m dangerously hyped for the Switch 2 launch lineup.

Here’s how June 5 is going to go: wake up early, open the front door like I’m expecting a package from royalty (because I am), unbox the Nintendo Switch 2 with zero chill, and dive straight into my pre-ordered stack of launch titles.

I’ve already mapped out my schedule: Mario Kart with friends, Cyberpunk 2077 for late-night vibes, and maybe a few hours lost in Donkey Kong Bananza when I should probably be sleeping. The lineup is stacked, the console looks killer, and honestly? I haven’t been this hyped for a launch since the original Switch.

Here’s the lineup I’m most hyped for—and trust me, there’s something here for everyone.

Mario Kart World

Price: $79.00 at Walmart

Mario Kart World – Nintendo Direct | Nintendo Switch 2

You know that one friend who’s always tossing red shells at the worst time? Yeah, that’s about to get a whole lot more intense. Mario Kart World isn’t just a shiny new coat of paint—it’s a full-blown overhaul. New gravity-defying tracks, dynamic weather effects, and 120 fps gameplay make it feel like the future of kart racing. I’m already dreaming about rooftop battles with friends, Joy-Con in hand and blue shells ready.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Price: $79.00 at Walmart

The Legend of Zelda games – Nintendo Switch 2 Editions & ZELDA NOTES – Overview Trailer

This game already ruled my life once. Now, with Switch 2 upgrades, it’s ready to do it all over again. Tears of the Kingdom was already packed with wild physics and open-world creativity, but now it’s even more beautiful and fluid. I’ll be the one squinting at my screen at 3 a.m. trying to figure out how to build a sky glider from logs and wheels again.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Price: $69.00 at Walmart

Replaying BotW on the Switch 2 feels like pulling out an old favorite hoodie—familiar, but somehow better. Smoother frame rates, faster loading, and new shrines? Sign me up. I’m honestly excited to rediscover the world, especially with a fresh perspective on all the places I used to just glide past.

Donkey Kong Bananza

Price: $69.00 at Walmart

Donkey Kong Bananza – Nintendo Direct | Nintendo Switch 2

I was not prepared for how hyped I’d get about a new Donkey Kong game, but here we are. Donkey Kong Bananza brings back that sweet, old-school co-op platforming—with a modern twist. I’ve already got plans to team up with a friend, argue about who gets to be Diddy, and inevitably blame each other for missed jumps. It’s gonna be glorious.

Street Fighter 6 Year 1–2 Fighters Edition

Price: $59.88 at Walmart

Street Fighter 6 – Announcement Trailer – Nintendo Switch 2

Street Fighter on the go? Yes, please. This version packs in two full years of DLC fighters and stages, which means I can jump right into online chaos without grinding for unlocks. I’m most excited to test how it feels in handheld mode—imagine pulling off a perfect combo while waiting for your burrito. The dream.

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition

Price: $69.00 at Walmart

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition – Announcement Trailer – Nintendo Switch 2

When Cyberpunk launched the first time, let’s just say… it was rough. But now, on the Switch 2 with all the patches, expansions, and shiny polish? I’m genuinely stoked. The fact that I can roam Night City from my couch or during a long train ride is blowing my mind. Time to dive back in, upgrade my cyberware, and cause some chaos.

Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut

Price: $49.94 at Walmart

Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut Nintendo Switch 2.

Yakuza 0 is like a perfect bowl of ramen—warm, surprising, and slightly ridiculous in the best way. It’s one of my favorite games ever, and the new Director’s Cut gives me an excuse to replay it again, this time with a performance bump and some new content sprinkled in. Between the intense fight scenes and karaoke minigames, I’m ready for another deep dive into Kamurocho.

Sonic X Shadow Generations

Price: $49.99 at Walmart

SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS – Launch Trailer – Nintendo Switch

Sonic fans, we’re eating good. This one mashes together the best of classic 2D speedruns and sleek 3D environments, and it looks awesome on Switch 2. Playing as both Sonic and Shadow, with new tag-team boss battles? Childhood me is screaming. Current me is pre-ordering.

Hitman World of Assassination: Signature Edition

Price: $59.88 at Walmart

Hitman World of Assassination: Signature Edition Nintendo Switch 2

There’s something weirdly soothing about planning the perfect silent takedown in Hitman. On the Switch 2, everything runs faster and looks sharper, which means I can sneak, disguise, and (maybe) mess up missions in high definition. I’m already thinking up absurd challenges—like taking out a target using only a fish. It’s the little things.

Why June 5 Can’t Come Soon Enough

So yeah, if you need me that weekend, I’ll be glued to my Nintendo Switch 2, hopping between Hyrule, Night City, and a banana-filled jungle. The fact that all of these are dropping together honestly feels like a fever dream. And with pre-orders live at Walmart, I’ve already got my launch day lineup locked in.

Whether you’re into racing, exploring, fighting, or just flinging bananas with a buddy, this lineup has something worth sinking into. And let’s be real—after the last few years, a full day of escape into these wild worlds sounds pretty perfect.

See you on the track. Or the battlefield. Or in a karaoke bar in Yakuza. Wherever it is—we’ll all be playing.
