Tribit has officially launched its upgraded StormBox 2 Bluetooth speaker, introducing several enhancements over its predecessor. The Tribit StormBox 2 promises improved sound quality, greater power, and enhanced functionality, positioning it as a versatile option for both casual listeners and audio enthusiasts.
At first glance, the StormBox 2 retains the familiar design of the original model. It features a compact, cylindrical form factor measuring 7 inches by 2.7 inches by 2.7 inches, and it weighs just over a pound (580 grams), making it highly portable. This design includes two passive bass radiators at each end, providing robust bass output despite the speaker’s small size.
The exterior controls remain intuitive with the familiar “+ O —” buttons for volume and playback, along with a newly added TWS button on the back. This button facilitates True Wireless Stereo (TWS) mode, enabling users to pair two StormBox 2 speakers or connect to other compatible Tribit models such as the StormBox Flow or XSound Plus 2 for an expanded audio experience.
The Tribit StormBox 2 has undergone significant internal upgrades. It now features two 48mm full-range drivers, which have been slightly enlarged from the previous model. These drivers deliver a peak power output of 34 watts, up from 24 watts in the original StormBox. This power increase ensures a more immersive and dynamic 360-degree audio experience. The speaker’s XBass technology has been retained, providing a notable boost to the low-end frequencies, which enhances the overall sound profile.
Another notable feature of the StormBox 2 is its upgraded Bluetooth 5.3 capability. This latest Bluetooth version offers a more stable connection and extends the wireless range up to 98 feet (30 meters), reducing the likelihood of signal loss or dropouts. Additionally, Tribit has introduced a new companion app for the StormBox 2, which allows users to fully customize their listening experience.
The app includes several preset equalization (EQ) settings tailored for different genres such as Audiobook, Classic, Jazz, Rock, and the default XBass. Users can also create their own custom EQ curve using a nine-band equalizer, adjusting frequencies ranging from 80Hz to 13kHz to match their personal preferences and listening environments.
The Tribit StormBox 2 offers an impressive battery life, with Tribit’s RunStretch technology providing up to 24 hours of playback on a single charge. This extended playtime is tested at 60% volume without the XBass feature, making it suitable for long trips and outdoor activities.
The speaker’s IPX7 waterproof rating ensures it can withstand immersion in up to a meter of water for 30 minutes, making it ideal for pool parties, beach outings, and other outdoor adventures. Charging the speaker to full capacity takes approximately four hours.
The addition of TWS functionality means users can pair two StormBox 2 units for a more powerful stereo sound. This feature also extends to other compatible Tribit speakers, allowing for a flexible and scalable audio setup. Whether you’re looking to enhance your home audio system or boost the sound at a social gathering, the StormBox 2’s multi-speaker connectivity provides a versatile solution.
The Tribit StormBox 2 is currently available in black and can be purchased directly from the Tribit website or through Amazon. Priced at $67.99, the speaker offers a significant upgrade in terms of audio performance, connectivity, and customization options compared to its predecessor.
