Universal Pictures Adds Dolby Vision Content to VUDU

Huntsman-DV.jpgDolby Labs has announced that Universal Pictures released its first group of UHD titles with Dolby Vision HDR, available for purchase or rent through the VUDU app on compatible TVs. Titles include The Huntsman: Winter's War,  Lone Survivor, Lucy, and Oblivion. Those last two also come with Dolby Atmos 3D soundtracks. To view these titles with HDR, you need a Dolby Vision-capable smart TV with the integrated VUDU app; currently, Vizio and LG are the primary sellers of DV-capable UHD displays.

From Dolby Labs
Dolby Laboratories, Inc., VUDU, and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) announced the first slate of titles now available in UHD with Dolby Vision high dynamic range (HDR) imaging. Dolby Vision titles now available for purchase and rental on VUDU include the all-new release "The Huntsman: Winter's War," and fan favorites "Lucy," "Oblivion," and "Lone Survivor." In addition to Dolby Vision HDR imaging, "Lucy" and "Oblivion" will feature Dolby Atmos moving audio.

"We're thrilled to partner with UPHE to deliver these exciting titles with the breathtaking color, deep contrast, and striking highlights that customers have come to expect from Dolby Vision. Combined with Dolby Atmos immersive audio, Universal titles such as "Lucy" and "Oblivion" have never looked--or sounded--better," said Curt Behlmer, Senior Vice President, Content Solutions and Industry Relations, Dolby Laboratories. "As more Dolby Vision enabled displays hit the market, streaming partners like VUDU make Dolby's next-generation imaging technology easier to experience than ever before."

Dolby Vision combines two powerful capabilities--high dynamic range and wide color gamut--resulting in astonishing images that, compared to standard pictures, deliver brighter highlights, more light-to-dark contrast, and colors never before seen on TV. Dolby Atmos-enabled home theater products allow sound to move around the room in a three-dimensional way in order to create a more powerfully immersive and emotive soundscape and experience. Together, these groundbreaking technologies provide viewers with a premium home entertainment experience.

"At VUDU, we're committed to providing customers with the best possible home entertainment experience, and partnering with Dolby on HDR delivers on that promise," said Scott Blanksteen, Vice President of Product, VUDU. "We're excited to add these new Universal titles to our library and offer customers the largest selection of premium HDR movies of any digital service."

From content creation to distribution and playback, Dolby Vision has support as an end-to-end solution from A-list Hollywood directors, executives at major studios, streaming service providers, and TV manufacturers worldwide.
