Big news today in the world of room correction from Audyssey. There's a new app, it's called MultEQ-X, and it is the first taste Audyeesy users will get of forthcoming improvements and added capabilities. Audyssey says the new app will deliver the following features:
Compatibility with the new app extends through all Denon and Marantz AVRs that work with the Audyssey MultEQ Editor app. But by app, here we're talking about Windows, not a mobile device. The company says the MultEQ-X app is not a replacement for the existing app but rather an app for those who wish to take a deeper dive into the fine-tuning of the room correction in their system.
If you are wondering what's the catch, it's that nothing super awesome comes free. And in this case, the app costs a somewhat eye-opening $199.99 (which is why it's a good thing the existing Editor app will stick around). But hey, $200 is not crazy money for sophisticated PC software, right?
But the idea here is that Audyssey "capability" is now baked into the app, and is not dependent on the AV hardware. In other words, your PC does the number-crunching that includes new capabilities and sends the result to the AVR, so your existing gear now supports new features. For $199.99.
There's no need to wait to try this new feature, the app is available now from the Microsoft Store. You can download the app for free and go through the menus and features, but cannot perform an actual calibration without paying the license fee.
