FiiO has had a busy year so far, launching the M23 Portable Audio Player and K19 Headphone Amp/DAC, and now the audio brand is expanding its lineup with the new FiiO SP3 BT active desktop speakers. This new product is designed for users seeking high-quality audio output without the need for a full-scale hi-fi setup, making it an ideal choice for computer use or compact living spaces.
The FiiO SP3 BT speakers, available in both black and white finishes, deliver a powerful audio experience with 40W per channel. This power is split between a 30W woofer and a 10W tweeter in each speaker. The speakers boast a range of connectivity options, including USB Type-C, coaxial, optical digital inputs, and analog inputs for RCA and 3.5mm line-in.
This array of inputs allows the SP3 BT to support high-resolution audio, with the optical input handling up to 24-bit/96kHz and the USB Type-C and coaxial inputs supporting up to 32-bit/96kHz.
One of the most notable features of the SP3 BT is its extensive Bluetooth capabilities. The speakers support a variety of audio codecs, including SBC, AAC, aptX, and aptX Low Latency. Additionally, they offer high-resolution wireless audio through aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, and LDAC. This makes the FiiO SP3 BT highly versatile and compatible with a wide range of devices, such as smartphones, Macs, PCs, digital audio players (DAPs), and tablets.
Designed to enhance the user experience, the SP3 BT speakers can be paired with FiiO's Control and Music mobile apps available on both iOS and Android platforms. These apps provide a 10-band parametric equalizer for precise sound adjustments when connected via Bluetooth.
The FiiO SP3 BT speakers are equipped with a 3.5-inch carbon-fiber mid-woofer and a 1-inch silk tweeter, powered by Class D amplification. The mid-woofer's carbon-fiber composition should provide a rapid transient response and minimize non-linear distortion, thanks to an auxiliary magnet added to the center of the speakers to strengthen the magnetic field.
The silk tweeters are angled to reduce sound wave dispersion, while the horizontal striped pattern of the speakers helps spread sound effectively throughout a room. According to the company, these tweeters feature copper-plated aluminum KSV voice coils, which ensure accurate and clean reproduction of high frequencies, even when listening off-axis.
For those concerned about bass performance, the SP3 BT utilizes an innovative double-diffused S-shaped porting tube, allowing the speakers to maintain a compact size while producing deep and punchy bass. This design improves bass extension and control, resulting in fast bass transients and superior audio quality at lower frequencies.
FiiO has also addressed the practical aspects of speaker placement. The SP3 BT comes with two sets of silicone stands, offering either a 0-degree elevation or a 7-degree front-facing incline. These stands are designed to provide optimal proximity listening, particularly useful when the speakers are placed on a desk. The silicone material of the stands helps absorb vibrations, further improving sound clarity.
Another notable feature of the FiiO SP3 BT is the LED lighting system at the bottom of the cabinet. Users can choose from 24 different colors or turn the lights off completely using a button on the rear of the speakers.
